I want a life where I always do the right thing - where I always say the right thing - even where I always "think" the right thing. It doesn't happen. With a spirit that is being renewed and transformed by God everyday, I'm still in a body and mind that is always tempted to sin. Sometimes I recognized Satan's temptations and get away from them - sometimes I don't. It's the lifelong struggle we all face.
We're in good company though. Even the Apostle Paul said, "The things I should do, I don't and the things I don't want to do, I end up doing," to paraphrase. In short, he struggled with sin just like we do.
Yet, the Bible tells us that if we confess our sin, He (Jesus) is faithful to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Those are powerful words for us. The end result: When we sin, don't wallow in it. Own up to it - confess it - run from it - walk in the light. Jesus has already given us the power we need for living in this world, but we must reach out to him.
